Braid, David (b. 1970, Wrexham, Wales). British
composer of mostly chamber and vocal works that have been successfully
performed throughout Europe; he is also active as a writer and consultant on
music.
Mr. Braid graduated from the Royal College of Music in London in 1994 and then did post-graduate study in composition and conducting at the Kraków Academy of Music in 1995. While in Poland, he also made an advanced study of fugue and counterpoint for a year with Zbigniew Bujarski. In 1998, he returned to the RCM, where he completed his MMus in composition.
He is one of the featured
composers of the Society for the Promotion of New Music from 2001-04, since his
work for small orchestra, Cause and
Reaction, was short-listed in 2001. His awards include the Jack Morrison
Prize for Guitar (1993), the Accessit Composition Prize for Youth Orchestra (Spain,
1994), the John Longmire Prize for Composition (RCM, 1998), and the Chameleon
Composers’ Group Prize (London, 2000).
His works have been played
in the UK, as well as in Denmark, Germany, Poland, and Sweden.
