THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Aldo Clementi

(b. 25 May 1925, Catania, Sicily – d. 3 March 2011, Rome).

Italian composer of mostly stage, orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, and piano works that have been performed throughout the world.

Mr. Clementi was raised in a musical family and studied piano as a child. He received private guidance in composition and contemporary music from Alfredo Sangiorgi in Catania and later Bolzano from 1945–52, then studied composition with Goffredo Petrassi at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome from 1952–54. He frequented the Ferienkurse in Darmstadt from 1955–62.

Among his honours were two prizes in the competition of ISCM (Second Prize, 1959, for Episodi; First Prize, 1963, for Sette Scene) and the Premio Franco Abbiati della critica musicale italiana in Bergamo (1991–92, for Interludi. Musica per il Mito di Eco e Narciso [original version]).

He taught music theory at the Università di Bologna from 1971–92.

His publisher is Edizioni Suvini Zerboni.
