Javier Fajardo Chávez

(b. 22 May 1950, San Juan de Pasto).

Colombian composer of mostly choral works that have been performed in the Americas; he is also active as a conductor.

Mr. Fajardo received his master's degree in piano at the Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín. He later specialised in music education at Convenio INTEM in Chile and at the Universidad de Nariño in San Juan de Pasto, where he studied choral and vocal techniques with Detlef Scholz.

As a conductor, he has founded several choruses in Colombia, including Ars Musicæ, which he also directs.

He taught as a professor of piano and solfège at the Conservatorio Pedro Morales Pino in Cartago, Valle del Cauca in 1979–80. He served as director of the department of music at the Universidad de Nariño from 1981–98, where he has taught as an associate professor since 1998.
