Uruguayan composer of mostly chamber and piano works that have been performed throughout the Americas.
Mr. Iturriberry initially studied piano with Genoveva Fariña de Praga and Numen Vilariño in Montevideo. He then studied musicology at the Universidad de la República in Montevideo and counterpoint, harmony, musical forms, serialism, and the twelve-tone system privately with Angelo Turriziani. He later studied composition with Carlos Estrada, Manuel Fernández Espiro, Antonio Mastrogiovanni, and Héctor Tosar at the Escuela Universitaria de Música of the Universidad de la República. In addition, he twice participated in the Cursos Latinoamericanos de Música Contemporánea in Piriápolis in 1971–72.
Among his honours are Primer Premio in the competition of the Escuela Universitaria de Música of the Universidad de la República (1969, for Variaciones). His music has been performed in South America and in the USA, including once at the ISCM World Music Days in Boston, Massachusetts (1976).
He is also active in other positions. He worked as a music critic for the newspaper Época in 1967, the weekly newspaper Marcha in 1969–70, the weekly newspaper Brecha in 1986–87, and the newspaper Lea in 1989, all in Montevideo. He was a contributor to the Diccionario de la Música Española e Hispanoamericana in 1990–91. He is an active member of the Núcleo Música Nueva, Montevideo and the Sociedad Uruguaya de Música Contemporánea, the section in Uruguay of ISCM.
He has taught at various institutions, including the Escuela Universitaria de Música of the Universidad de la República.
