Kim, Artyom (b. August 10, 1976, Bekabad). Uzbek composer of mostly stage, chamber and vocal works that have been performed in Asia and Europe; he is also active as a conductor.

Mr. Kim began private music studies at age ten and studied bayan with Mikhail V. Mayevsky at the Khamza College of Music in Tashkent from 1991-95. He studied composition with Mirsadik Tadjiev at the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan in Tashkent in 1995-96 and with Dmitri Yanov-Yanovsky there from 1996-2001, where he earned his MMus.

Among his honors is First Prize as a bayan-player in a state-sponsored young performers competition in Samarkand (1994). His music has been performed in France, The Netherlands, Russia, the UK, and Uzbekistan.

Mr. Kim is also active in other positions. He has helped to organize the annual new music festival Ilkhom-XX in Tashkent since 1997 and has served as music director of the Ilkhom Theatre in Tashkent since 1999. As a conductor, he has conducted his own music, as well as music by Carl Orff, Aziza Sadikova, Alfred Schnittke, Jakhongir Shukurov, and Igor Stravinsky.
