Korucu, Semih (b. November 11, 1965, Ankara). Turkish composer of mostly chamber, vocal and piano works that have been performed in Asia, Europe and North America.
Mr. Korucu studied folk music privately with Ertuğrul Bayraktar in Ankara in 1984–85 and contemporary music privately with Ertuğrul Oğuz Fırat in Ankara in 1986–87. He studied analysis, composition and music theory with Cengiz Tanç and counterpoint with Bülent Tarcan at the Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi Devlet Konservatuvarı in İstanbul from 1987–95, where he had post-graduate studies in analysis and composition with İlhan Usmanbaş from 1995–97.
His music has been performed in Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and the USA.
Mr. Korucu is also active in other positions. He presented the new-music program Ustasız Cekic – The Hammer without a Master on Açık Radyo in İstanbul in 1997–98.
He taught music theory at the Akademi İstanbul from 1997–2003 and served as chair of its music department from 1997–2003. In addition, he taught music theory at Haliç Üniversitesi in Haliç in 2002–03. He has taught analysis, composition, counterpoint, fugue, harmony, and score reading at the Mersin Üniversitesi Devlet Konservatuvarı in Mersin since 2003, where he has also served as chair of the composition department since 2003.
