THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Gonçalo Lourenço

(b. 5 January 1979, Setúbal).

Portuguese composer of mostly chamber and choral works that have been performed in Europe and North America; he is also active as a conductor.

Mr. Lourenço studied composition with Christopher Bochmann and Roberto Pérez at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa from 1999–2005. He later studied choral conducting with Earl Rivers, Brett Scott and Elmer Thomas at the University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music, where he earned his master's degree, and choral conducting with William Gray, Robert Porco and Carmen Helena Téllez at Indiana University in Bloomington, where he is working on his DMA.

As a conductor, he founded both the Odyssea Choir and the Coro da Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon in 2004 and served as the artistic director of each chorus from 2004–09. He has served as artistic director of the Cincinnati Camerata since 2011 and co-founded with the violinists James Andrewes and Maria Romero the ensemble for Baroque music Exordium in 2012.
