Mora Bermúdez, Eddie (b. 1965, San José). Costa Rican composer of mostly orchestral and chamber works that have been performed in the Americas and Europe; he is also active as a violinist.

Prof. Mora studied composition with William Porras at the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica in 1980–81, where he later studied composition with Benjamín Gutiérrez in 1997 and Luis Diego Herra in 2003–04. He also studied violin with Maya Glizarova and Olga Voitova at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow from 1983–92 and had private composition lessons with Yuri Vorontsov in Moscow in 2000 and 2003 and in San José in 2001.

His honors include the national music prize Aquileo Echeverría (1997, for Escenas infantiles; 1998, for Bagatelas and Cantata; 2001, for Miniaturas; 2003, for Amighetti) and the Premio de la Asociación de Compositores y Autores Musicales in San José (2001, for Suite Ausencia). His music has been performed in Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, The Netherlands, Russia, and the USA.

He is also active in other positions. As a violinist, he has primarily performed his own music, as well as Costa Rican music from the 20th century, and has performed as part of the violin-piano duo Mora/Duarte since 1994. He co-founded the string orchestra Camerata Latinoamericana in 1995 and has served as artistic director of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Heredia since 2003.

He has taught chamber music, composition and violin as a professor at the Universidad de Costa Rica in San Pedro since 1992, where he has co-organized the annual Seminario por la Música Contemporánea since 2001.
