THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Diana Nuțeanu

(b. 1 December 1967, Bucharest).

Romanian composer of mostly chamber and choral works that have been performed in Europe and North America.

Ms. Nuțeanu studied piano with Gabriela Enășescu and Daniela Ioan at the Colegiul Național de Muzică George Enescu in Bucharest from 1978–86. She then studied composition with Dan Constantinescu at the Universitatea Națională de Muzică București from 1986–90 and had postgraduate studies there in 1990–91. She later attended the Ferienkurse in Darmstadt in 1992 and studied composition with Franco Donatoni at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena in 1993. She earned her PhD in musicology at the Universitatea Națională de Muzică București in 2001.

Among her honours are First Prize in the competition Iași (1989, for Three Miniatures) and five prizes in Bucharest (First Prize, 1993, for Song; First Prize, 1994, for Children's Orchestra; mention, 1995, for The Shadow of the Night; Third Prize, 1997, for Elegia [withdrawn]; mention, 1997, for Scherzo).

She is also active in other positions. As a conductor, she worked with the Bulgarian Cultural Association in Bucharest from 1990–94. As a pianist, she has performed with the chorus Euterpe from the Colegiul Național Elena Cuza in Bucharest since 1990 and performed with the chorus Gloria Cantus in Bucharest from 1993–96. She co-founded the chorus Fortis in 1994 and has served as its pianist since 1994.

She taught as a professor of music at the Colegiul Național Elena Cuza from 1990–95 and has taught at the Universitatea Națională de Muzică București since 1995, where she has been an associate professor since 1997.
