Procaccioli, Stefano (b. 1960, Treviso). Italian composer of mostly chamber and choral works that have been performed throughout Europe and elsewhere.
Prof. Procaccioli studied composition with Daniele Zanettovich and organ with Tarcisio Todero at the Conservatorio J. Tomadini in Udine from 1974-90. He then studied composition with Giacomo Manzoni at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole from 1990-94.
His honors include First Prize in the Musica e Poesia competition of the Associazione S. Pugliatti in Messina (1984, for Trittico da S. Quasimodo), First Prize in the V. Bucchi competition in Rome (1985, for Riflessi) and First Prize in the Abesbatzen Komposizioaren XV – Lehiaketa competition in Tolosa (1986, for Transitus). He has also earned the Premio A. Ricci in the competition of the Accademia A. Ricci in Udine (1989, for Toccata prima), First Prize in the competition of the Associazione Filologica Friulana in Udine (1992, for Alleluia VI) and the Premio Veretti from the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole (1994, for Scene da... [withdrawn]). Most recently, he received First Prize in the Edvard Grieg memorial competition in Oslo (2004, for From darkest night). His music has been performed in the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Spain, including once at the Warsaw Autumn festival (1994).
He is also active in other positions. He co-founded with Paolo Longo the Taukay Ensemble in Italy in 1996, with which he has regularly collaborated. In addition, he has written articles on music for Italian publications, including Analisi, the journal of the Società Italiana di Analisi Musicale.
He has taught as a professor of analysis and harmony at the Conservatorio G. Tartini in Trieste since 1989.
