Rimoldi, Paolo (b. 1961, Tradate). Italian composer of mostly orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, and piano works that have been performed throughout Europe and elsewhere.
Mr. Rimoldi studied piano with Sergio Lattes at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan from 1975-82, where he also studied composition with Azio Corghi and Irlando Danieli from 1982-88 and graduated summa cum laude.
He has received many honors in competitions, including First Prize in the V. Bucchi in Rome (1983, for Die Welt wird Traum [withdrawn]) and First Prize in the Ville de Bagneux (1988, for Commentaire aux «Dialogues sur les grands yeux», 'l'amorosa conversazione'). He has also received Second Prize in the Concours international de composition de musique sacrée in Fribourg (1993, for Iesu redemptor) and Second Prize in the E. Porrino competition in Cagliari (1995, for At the still point of the turning world). His most recent honors include First Prize in the Athenaeum NAE in Rome (1996, for «...poiché risiede in ciò che accetta, e splende») and First Prize in the L. de Narváez in Granada (2000, for Die Welt wird Traum II) competitions.
In addition, his music has been recommended in numerous competitions, including the Casinos Austria in Vienna (1991, for «...ancora viva tra le sue rovine»), and his Concertino (Kumi ori) was a finalist in the Leonard Bernstein competition in Jerusalem (1997). His works have been performed in Austria, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland, including at the Gaudeamus Muziekweek (1989), the ISCM World Music Days (1991, Zürich) and the Venice Biennale (2001).
He has taught composition at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan since 2001.
