THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Matthew Rizzuto

(b. 1973, Edmonton, Alberta).

Canadian composer of mostly chamber works that have been performed in Europe and North America.

Mr. Rizzuto studied music theory and piano privately with Valentina Dobrolige in Edmonton from 1982–92 and piano with Helmut Brauss at the University of Alberta in Edmonton from 1992–96. He studied composition with Denys Bouliane and John Rea at McGill University in Montréal from 1997–2000.

Among his honours are two awards in the competition for young composers of SOCAN (Second Pierre Mercure Prize, 2001, for perseveration kids; Third Serge Garant Prize, 2003, for 8g), the Prix de la musique contemporaine Flandre in Québec (2002, for 8g) and Second Prize in the category Solo Piano in the competition for young composers of the CBC (2003, for perseveration kids). His music has been performed in Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, and the UK.
