Roi, Micheline (b. 1963, Ontario). Canadian composer of mostly chamber works that have been performed in North America and elsewhere.
Ms. Roi received her BMus in composition from Queen's University in 1987 and her MMus in composition from McGill University in Montréal in 1992. She then attended courses on computers in music and psychoacoustics at Stanford University in 1994-95, where she also attended seminars in composition with Jonathan Harvey, Jody Rockmaker and David Soley in 1995-96.
Her honors include the Rudolphe Mathieu Award in the CAPAC young composers competition (1990) and the Godfrey Ridout Award in the SOCAN competition for young composers (1992). She has received awards and commissions from the Canada Council for the Arts, CAPAC, the Ontario Arts Council, and SOCAN. Her music has been performed in Canada, The Netherlands, the USA, and the UK, as well as in South America, and has been commissioned and performed by Continuum, ERGO Projects, percussionist Beverley Johnston, pianist alcides e. lanza, the McGill University Concert Choir, New Music Concerts, accordionist Joseph Petric, harpsichordist Vivienne Spiteri, and the Windsor Symphony Orchestra.
She is also active in other positions. She has served as co-chair of the programming committee for Continuum and the Ontario director of the Association of Canadian Women Composers since 1999 and as an Ontario council member of the Canadian League of Composers since 2001.
