THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Timo Ruttkamp

(b. 5 July 1980, Hagen).

German composer of mostly chamber works that have been performed in Europe and North America.

Mr. Ruttkamp studied accordion at the Max-Reger-Musikschule in Hagen from 1989–2001, where he also studied composition and music theory from 1993–2001 and piano from 1996–2001. He has studied composition with York Höller at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne since 2001, on a grant from the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. He also studied at McGill University in Montréal in 2003, on an exchange scholarship.

Among his honours are three prizes in the Jugend komponiert competition in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (Third Prize, 1995, for Konzertstück für Streicher, Hörner, Posaunen, und Schlagzeug [withdrawn]; Second Prize, 1997, for Sonatine für Akkordeon [withdrawn]; First Prize, 1999, for Nachtbilder), two prizes in the Bundeswettbewerb Komposition of Jeunesses Musicales Germany (2000, for Images perdues...; 2001, for Fels), a selected work in the competition of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne (2003, for Abgrund), and First Prize in the competition of the Weimarer Frühjahrstage für zeitgenössische Musik (2004, for trans-formation[en]). His music has been performed in Canada and Germany.
