T he Living Composers Project  

Streich, Stefan (b. 1961, Schwäbisch Hall). German composer of mostly orchestral, chamber and vocal works that have been performed throughout Europe.

Mr. Streich studied composition with Toni Völker and guitar with Wilfried Senger at the Städtische Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt from 1982-90 and composition with Helmut Lachenmann at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart from 1990-94. He also attended Darmstadt in 1988 and seminars given by Gottfried Michael Koenig, Boguslaw Schaeffer and Isang Yun.

His honors include First Prize in the Stuttgart competition (1989), First Prize in the Musica Viva Pforzheim competition (1990), residency scholarships from the Schloss Wiepersdorf (1994) and the Villa Massimo in Rome (2003-04), and a scholarship from the Stiftung Kulturfonds Berlin (1995). His music has been performed at various festivals, including two portrait concerts at Darmstadt (1995, 2002).

He is also active in other positions. He has produced various music theatre collaborations with the theatre performer Stephanie Hecht since 1996 and with her founded both the interdisciplinary artist group WEISS Kunstbewegung in 1997 and the Brüllchor, a mixed roaring chorus, in 2000.

Mr. Streich lectured on new music at the Abendschule Schwäbisch Hall from 1988-93 and at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe in 1991.
