THE LIVING COMPOSERS PROJECT  

Gabrio Taglietti

(b. 15 December 1955, Cremona).

Italian composer of mostly chamber and piano works that have been performed throughout Europe and elsewhere.

Mr. Taglietti studied composition with Davide Anzaghi and Giacomo Manzoni at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, where he earned his diploma in 1981. He also studied piano with Maria Grazia Bertocchi during this time.

Among his honours are prizes in the competition Guido d'Arezzo in Arezzo (1988), the competition Franco Evangelisti (1989), the competition Mario Zafred (1990), and the competition Valentino Caracciolo (1991). His music has been performed in Argentina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland.

He is also active in other positions. He has performed as a pianist with the ensemble Gruppo Musica Insieme di Cremona and has organised the festival Spazionovecento in Cremona. He has translated many essays on music, including the Scritti critici by Robert Schumann (1990), and arranged the rhythmic version of the libretto for the opera Das Verratene Meer by Hans Werner Henze for the Teatro alla Scala in Milan (1990). In addition, he has translated the complete correspondence between Thomas Mann and Arnold Schoenberg (1993), four essays by Theodor W. Adorno (2001) and Il Velo dell'Ordine, a version of Ausgerechnet ich, a book of conversations between Alfred Brendel and Martin Meyer (2003, Adelphi).

He taught the history and techniques of contemporary music at the Scuola di Paleografia Musicale in Cremona in 1993 and has taught composition at the Conservatorio Lucio Campiani in Mantua since 1997.
