Talmelli
Mr. Talmelli graduated with degrees in Piano (1972, with Lino Rastelli) and Composition (1977, with Azio Corghi) from the Arrigo Boito Conservatory of Parma. He also earned a degree in Jurisprudence from the University of Parma (1976). He earned fellowships in Lanciano (1974) and Groznjan (Croatia, 1977) and was a student of P. Guarino in conducting (1977-79).
He was a teacher of composition at the Arrigo Boito Conservatory of Parma from 1975-84, and since 1982, he has been active in the first experimentation in Italy of having an attached high school alongside the institute. He has been manager of the A. Tonelli Musical Institute of Carpi since 1986, and from 1990, manager of the Achille Peri Musical Institute of Reggio nell'Emilia.
His works have been played many times in Italy, including performances at Aterforum, the Festival Due Dimensioni, Musica nel Frentano, Spazio Novecento, the Milano Estate, the Festival di Sarteano, Concerti della RAI, Europa '93 di Vittorio Veneto, Musica Attuale di Bologna, Sonopolis di Mestre, and the Valentiniano di Terni Festival. His works have also been heard at the Festival di Musica Contemporanea di Udine, Immaginario Mediterraneo di Siracusa, the Festival Nuove Sincronie di Milano, the Rive Gauche Concerti e Camerata strumentale Casella di Torino, Spaziomusica di Cagliari, Sonopolis di Venezia, Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte di Montepulciano, Zephir di Palermo, among others.
Outside Italy, his works have been performed in Argentina, Austria (Festival Aspekte, Salzburg), Canada, Croatia (Groznjan, 1977), France, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Lebanon, Malta, and Mexico. His works have also been heard in The Netherlands (Gaudeamus), Norway, Romania, Russia, Switzerland (Music in the Mendrisiotto), Turkey, the UK (Sotheby's, 1993), the USA, and Yugoslavia (International Festival, Belgrade, 1995, 1997).
He has won or received special mentions from the International Competition of the Filarmonica Umbra of Terni (1978, 1988), the Guido d'Arezzo Competition of Polyphonic Composition (1981), the Muccetti Prize of Parma (1981), and the first edition of Venezia Opera Prima promoted by La Fenice (1981).
His works have been broadcast on RAI 3, TV-Koper, Italian Swiss Radio, Russian National Radio, and ORTF (Austria). In 1990, the Rimsky-Korsakov Museum and the Association of Composers invited him to Leningrad, and there he worked on the score for the film Donna variante di destino by Vladimir Makedonsky (for SoyuzTelefilm). His 1993 work De insulis inventis was used in the film Colombo e Leonardo by Dmitry Demin.
In 1996, the Italian Institute of Culture invited him to Vancouver for lectures and premières of his works. In 2000, he was a guest at Fort Worth, Texas, where his work Frammenti di Lesbo was performed, and where he received an invitation to write a composition for the orchestra of that city.
