Romanian composer of mostly stage, chamber and electroacoustic works that have been performed in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Mr. Vlad is the son of the composers Ulpiu Vlad and Marina-Marta Vlad, with both of whom he studied music as a child. He studied at the Liceul de Muzică George Enescu in Bucharest from 1990–2002. He studied composition with Anton Șuteu at the Universitatea Națională de Muzică București from 2002–06, where he then studied aesthetics with Antigona Rădulescu, composition with Anton Șuteu, electronic music with Octavian Nemescu, and music and multimedia with Dan Dediu from 2006–08, where he later earned his PhD in 2011 under the supervision of Liviu Dănceanu and where he had postdoctoral research studies with Grigore Constantinescu in 2012–13.
Among his honours are the prize of the journal Actualitatea muzicală in Bucharest (2011), the prize for best show in the category Operetta–Musical at the Superlativele Artele Spectacolului Musical pentru Copii in Bucharest (2012, for Diamantul și Gâsca – The Diamond and the Goose) and the Premiul Grigore Constantinescu at the the Romanian Musical Forum Gala in Bucharest (2014). His music has been performed in Canada, Denmark, France, India, Israel, Morocco, Romania, Spain, and the USA.
He is also active in other positions. As a pianist, he has performed contemporary music in France, Germany and Romania. As a researcher, he has worked at the Centrul de Muzică electroacustică și Multimedia of the Universitatea Națională de Muzică București since 2008.
