Platini, Giacomo (b. February 13, 1967, Gattinara, Vercelli). Italian composer of
primarily chamber works that have been performed throughout Europe.
Mr. Platini studied
composition with Ivan Fedele at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Como, where he graduated
in 1997, and later at the Conservatoire National de Région de
Strasbourg, where he graduated in 2000. He also studied piano with Remo Remoli at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Turin, where he
graduated in 1989, and with Marian Mika at the Accademia Internazionale de
Musica in Novara, where he graduated in 1994.
In 1994, he studied conducting with
Gustav Kuhn in Milan and attended courses with Niccolň Castiglioni in 1994,
György Ligeti in 1996 and Betsy Jolas in 2002 and participated in the
Académie d’été in 1997 and the annual Cursus de Composition et Informatique
Musicale in 2000, both at IRCAM.
Among his honors
are a scholarship from the association Giosuč Carducci in Como (1996) and the
Lucus Prize in the Gesualdo da Venosa Competition (1997, for Inachis). His music has been heard in
Aosta, Avignon, Palermo, Paris, and Strasbourg, as played by ensembles such as
l’Ensemble Accroche Note, In Extremis and Octandre.
In 2001, he
co-founded with Jacopo Baboni Schilingi the group PRISMA (Pedagogia e
Ricerca sui Sistemi Musicali Assistiti), which consists of ten European
composers and which works on computer-aided composition and musical research.
Currently, PRISMA works at the Tempo Reale in Florence (founded by
Luciano Berio) and a book of
articles by its composers, PRISMA 01,
is available (2003, Edizioni Euresis).
From 1996-2000,
he lectured at the Scuola Superiore di Musica in Aosta and since 2001, has
taught at the electronic music studio AGON in Milan.
